A Beginner's Guide to Contemplation

Join spiritual director Alumine Andrew for this weekend retreat dedicated to the Christian contemplative tradition. This retreat is perfect for anyone wanting a gentle introduction to the contemplative approach to Christianity, as well as those already familiar with the tradition but want to remind themselves of the basics. The weekend will be held in silence, with regular periods of contemplative prayer, time for reflection, and group exercises. All food and linen provided.

About the hosts

Aluminé Andrew has been interested in the contemplative life for many years, and how we can be modern contemplatives! Based in Sumner for the last 20 years, she has led retreats and is a Spiritual Director. Her passion is to engage in all forms of prayer and meditation, learning and encouraging others to try out different ways to pray and connect with God. Alumine is a photographer, pursues slow textile arts, is an avid reader, and has a book review blog. Creativity is really important in her life, from cooking a meal right through to spinning wool or climbing a mountain.

Eddie O’Connor is the director of Sister Eveleen House and writer. In 2020 Eddie completed a Master’s of Writing and took on the role of Director at SERH. He’s particularly interested in how we can revive ancient forms of faith and art in ways that make sense to the modern world. Eddie run a contemplative daily office, three times a day, as part of his role as director of SERH.
