About the event

Come join Anthony Williams OFS at Sister Eveleen House for a weekend silent retreat based on St Francis and St Clare of Assisi. This retreat is a perfect time for anyone wanting an introduction to the lives of Saints Francis and Clare. To be immersed in their individual spiritual gifts and to experience their time as medieval saints whose messages of simplicity, compassion, and the care of all creation are still relevant in our world today.

The retreat will include a regular rhythm of contemplative prayer, shared meals, teaching on St Francis and St Clare, as well as time for personal prayer and reflection. Spaces are limited so book early to avoid missing out.

To register please book a 'ticket' below. You'll be invoiced the full price of the retreat closer to the time of the retreat (ignore the fact that it says the cost is $0).

Dates: October 1, 7 pm: October 3, 2:30 pm

About the facilitator: Anthony Williams is a long-time professed member of the Catholic Third Order of St Francis (Ordo Franciscanus Saecularis). Having been professed in 2005, he subsequently served as Formator for the New Zealand Fraternities for a period of three years. He believes that spirituality is innate and when one searches for a spiritual practice, you will know without any uncertainty when you have found your particular one. That is what happened when he came across St Francis. Anthony lived and worked at the Cistercian Monastery in Kopua, Hawkes Bay, for a period of 6 years where he experienced a life of contemplation, silence, liturgy, and community. Anthony obtained a Diploma in Religious Studies and Spirituality from the Diocese of Christchurch in 1990 and has since compiled many documents on St Francis and Franciscanism that have been distributed widely and used by the New Zealand Fraternities. He is now semi-retired and lives in Christchurch.

About the Sister Eveleen Retreat House: Sister Eveleen Retreat House (SERH) is a spiritual haven nestled among the native trees on Scarborough Hill. It is owned by the Anglican Diocese but is run ecumenically. It was bequeathed to the church by Sister Eveleen who asked for it to be used as a 'house of spiritual help and prayer.' Please note that there is no parking on Whitewash Head Road. You will need to park down by the waterfront and walk to the house. Assistance can be provided if required.
