About the event

St Ignatius of Loyola was a 16th-century Catholic priest and founder of the Jesuits. He is perhaps most well known as a spiritual director and creator of the Spiritual Exercises, which remain a staple of Christian spirituality to this day.

This weekend silent retreat is an introductory look at the life of St Ignatius and his Spiritual Exercises. The Spiritual Exercises have been called a school of prayer by some, and a school of discernment by others. Really, they are in a genre all of their own -  a 30-day method of prayer, meditation, and contemplation that leads one into a profound encounter with Christ. This retreat is ideal for someone looking to learn more about St Ignatius and Ignatian spirituality without committing to the entire Spiritual Exercises.

To register, please book a ticket through the link below. You'll be invoiced for the cost of the retreat after registration (ignore the $0 on the ticket link).

Cost: $190

About the hosts

Eddie O’Connor is the director of Sister Eveleen Retreat House and is currently training as a spiritual director with Ignatian Spirituality NZ. He is also a wannabe writer, and in 2020 completed a Masters of Writing with the University of Canterbury. Eddie's focus in life is on the interior, experiential nature of Christian spirituality, particularly in a world that is focused on material outcomes and achievements. He lives onsite at Sister Eveleen House and runs a contemplative daily office as part of his regular rhythm of prayer.

Aluminé Andrew has been interested in the contemplative life for many years, and how we can be modern contemplatives! Based in Sumner for the last 20 years, she has led retreats and is a Spiritual Director. Her passion is to engage in all forms of prayer and meditation, learning and encouraging others to try out different ways to pray and connect with God. Alumine is a photographer, pursues slow textile arts, is an avid reader, and has a book review blog. Creativity is really important in her life, from cooking a meal right through to spinning wool or climbing a mountain.
