Saint Teresa of Avila was a Spanish nun who lived from 1515  to 1582 and is one of the great Christian writers and mystics. She is the author of some of the most well-regarded spiritual texts in history, including The Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle. St Teresa was also a key figure in the Carmelite movement and earned the rare distinction of being declared a Doctor of the Church.

In this two-day silent retreat, we'll be reflecting on St Teresa's life and thought and looking at how her unique vision can help influence and guide our spiritual life in the 21st century.

About the hosts:

Glenda  Prosser is a qualified spiritual director and pastoral supervisor in private practice for more than 20 years. She believes that God is always and everywhere active in our lives – our spiritual journey involves becoming aware of how God is present to us in each situation. Trained in the contemplative tradition through Spiritual Growth Ministries and CAIRA, Glenda served 6 years on the executive of the NZ Association of Christian Spiritual Directors (ACSD-ANZ), the last 2 of those as Executive Chair. Originally a secondary school teacher, she also holds a Masters of Arts (Spirituality) from OST in Texas. A Benedictine oblate and licensed lay minister in the Anglican church, Glenda lives in Rangiora (North Canterbury).

Eddie O'Connor is the Director of Sister Eveleen Retreat House. In 2020 he completed a Master’s Degree in Writing at the University of Canterbury, where he completed a screenplay, poems, short stories, and a series of narrative essays on contemplative Christianity. Eddie is currently undergoing formation in spiritual direction in the tradition of St Ignatius and is particularly interested in how we can revive ancient forms of spirituality for the modern world.

Payment Details: You will be sent an invoice for the $60 deposit after booking with another invoice sent for the balance closer to the time of the retreat. Deposit becomes non-refundable two weeks prior to the retreat.
